Fidlers Fancy Women’s Morris has two new young members, and their Mums, helping keep traditional dancing alive in Stockport.
Rebecca Smith (10) and Hannah Gregory (12) will be making their first appearance with the Morris dancers this Saturday; 29th November, as part of the celebrations to launch the refurbished market hall in Stockport.
Rebecca and Hannah, who both attend Stockport Grammar School, have been practising hard at the team’s headquarters at the Dialstone Methodist Church, Dialstone Lane, Offerton. Their Mums; Carol and Sonia, as well as learning the dances themselves, have been busy making all their outfits.

Squire of the team; Geraldine Timmins, said; “we are absolutely delighted to have the girls with us and we are all looking forward to performing in our home town. However, I would appeal for more musicians to join us. We have two great musicians; Adrian on accordion and John on melodeon, but they both play for other teams too. We would love to hear from anyone interested in playing for us

More information about Fidlers Fancy Morris team can be seen in their exhibition at Stockport Central Library until 8th December.

In line with the aims of the original team, Fidlers Fancy carry on the tradition of collecting and performing for local and national charities, as well as undertaking professional bookings and dancing at national and international festivals.

A typical year can involve street performances in and around the Stockport area, supporting charitable organisations, hosting other morris teams, summer evenings dancing out with other local morris teams at pub venues, demonstrations for visitors to the region, corporate events, birthday parties, etc. and representing the North West and United Kingdom at folk events, both at home and abroad.

The team have been delighted to represent the United Kingdom at international events held in Brittany, Holland, Jersey, Moscow, Seattle as well as numerous towns and cities around Great Britain.
